Much like bad weather tore through the northwest the night before, City swept United aside at the their home ground. It was a emphatic three goal win for the City coach's side thanks to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that clearly signaled their leadership claims as they reinforced their standing at the top of the table.

Consecutive Defeats for Manchester United

This result signalled successive league setbacks for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since last May, putting them seven points off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions hanging by a thread.

Manchester United's capability to juggle domestic and continental football with a small team has been a hotly discussed topic since they earned a place in the UCL. Looking at the fixture list, it always appeared this was the matchday that would seriously challenge this capability. Unfortunately for the visitors, they looked tired all game, the historic win against PSG clearly having had an impact.

Team Changes

Skinner had tried to make changes with a a few adjustments. Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Janssen and Galton all provided energy, although the dropping of the in-form Melvine Malard to the bench was questioned.
