A deadly railway accident in the southern state of Oaxaca has resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people, an incident sure to fuel censure from critics regarding the pace and execution of the country's key infrastructure initiatives.

The president reported that, of the around 250 passengers on board, another 98 were injured, with five of those in grave condition. The leader stated plans to go to Oaxaca to confer with those affected.

The Interoceanic Train was a central public works project of the previous administration, whose presidency concluded the year before. This project was closely associated with his government's strategic goals for the southeastern region.
